Resources
Here are just some books I found invaluable to the process of managing graduate school and the field of rhetoric/writing:
Graduate Study for the 21st Century, Gregory Semenza
Totally essential to navigating graduate school. In fact, I've probably subconsciously stolen most of the ideas here from that book. It was so incredibly helpful.
Surviving Your Academic Job Hunt, Kathryn Hume
A little early to read if you're just in the exam phase, but it's a good look ahead to what you want to plan for. Exams lead to dissertation, dissertation leads to job, job leads to tenure requirements; you can't totally engineer everything, but the degree to which you plan can help make all of those transitions easier.
Women's Ways of Making it in Rhetoric and Composition, Michelle Ballif, Diane Davis, Roxanne Mountford
Great compilation of the various career trajectories in rhetoric and composition.
